Senator interprets Ruto’s candle failing to light at Pope’s burial as bad omen for 2027
Apr 27, 2025
Laikipia Senator John Kinyua has sparked debate after suggesting that President William Ruto’s candle failing to light at Pope Francis’ burial signals political trouble ahead of 2027.
Speaking at the 26th anniversary of St. Louis Igwamiti Parish in Nyandarua, Kinyua said he was deeply disturbed by the scene he watched on television. He claimed that while other leaders' candles lit without issue, Ruto’s refused, which he interpreted as a sign of rejection.
According to Kinyua, the incident is a spiritual warning that President Ruto’s political reign may soon come to an end. He urged the public not to ignore such signs, predicting that Ruto's influence would fade by the next general election.
The senator also used the platform to criticize the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing it of making promises it has failed to fulfill. He cited the government’s inability to control elephant invasions, the rising insecurity, and the general feeling of neglect among citizens.
Echoing the sentiments of Catholic Bishop Antony Muheria, Kinyua argued that the government spends too much time announcing plans without delivering results. He warned that Kenyans are tired of endless talk and no action.
Kinyua praised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying his time in office brought real benefits to the Mount Kenya region, including better security and improved coffee prices.
