Robert Sugden is reportedly returning to Emmerdale. The character, played by Ryan Hawley, hasn't been seen in the Dales since 2019, when he was sentenced to 14 years in prison. His exit left fans completely devastated as it spelled the end of his romance with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller). The former couple, affectionately dubbed 'Robron', had an on-off relationship before officially tying the knot in 2018. But their marriage reached a devastating conclusion following Robert's imprisonment the following year.
But it has now been reported Robert is returning just in time to watch his ex-husband Aaron marry his brother, John Sugden. Viewers are concerned for Aaron as his fiance has been unmasked as the culprit behind several sinister incidents in the village, including the demise of Cain's son Nate Robinson. He also intentionally triggered Jacob's allergic reaction under the guise of saving him and tormented Chas and Liam, with Ella being framed.
An insider disclosed to The Sun that this is the "biggest secret in soapland", elaborating: "Ryan has a lot of respect for the show and its fans and he really wanted to give them a treat so he agreed to come back for a brief stint.
"It's going to be a huge surprise for fans, especially the Robron fans who have missed Robert desperately since Ryan quit."
