An unfortunate occurrence was reported from Ilara, a town in the Imeko- Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Wednesday night after gunmen invaded the community, kidnapped a popular businessman known as Ade Bendel, and killed two people in the process.

The incident occurred around 11 p. m. as residents were settling in for the night. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers stormed the town and began shooting randomly, causing confusion and fear among locals.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, the traditional ruler of the town, Oba Mutiu Adedimeji, confirmed the incident. He said the attackers abducted Ade Bendel and killed two individuals during the operation. He added that the kidnappers fled towards the Republic of Benin and abandoned the victim' s car along the route.

" Yes, the incident happened. They abducted Ade Bendel last night and killed two people. His car was later found in Sabe, which means they escaped through Benin Republic, " the monarch said.

A local youth leader, who requested anonymity, said the gunmen had trailed the businessman to his hotel before launching the attack. He noted that the attackers opened fire, and stray bullets hit and killed two people, including a female hotel staff member.

" Some gunmen kidnapped Ade Bendel around 11 p. m. They followed him to his hotel and started shooting. A female hotel worker and another person were killed by stray bullets, " he explained.
