Former UFC fighter Francis Ngannou has released a statement after local reports said he was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident
Former UFC fighter Francis Ngannou has spoken out on the 'heartbreaking' death of a 17-year-old girl after reports claimed he was involved in a fatal motorbike accident.
The Cameroonian mixed martial artist is best known for his seven years in the UFC, where he competed in the heavyweight division.
Ngannou was known for his punching power in the sport, and had a record of 17 wins and three losses when he decided to walk away from the UFC.
Since 2023, the 38-year-old has been competing in the Professional Fighters' League, an American MMA league where he is the inaugural PFL Super Fights Heavyweight Champion.
But away from the ring, recent reports from his homeland have claimed that the experienced fighter had struck a 17-year-old while riding a motorcycle in Cameroon.
It has also been said that Ngannou took her to Yanounde General Hospital himself so she could receive treatment.
Unfortunately, she passed away from her injuries following the accident.
Ngannou says his 'heart is shattered'
Ngannou issued a statement on the incident to TMZ Sports on Friday (2 May), admitting that his 'heart is shattered' over the 'heartbreaking' death.
"From the very beginning, I have been by the family's side, offering support, comfort, and deepest condolences during this time," he said.
