One Piece's Roronoa Zoro's Family Tree, Explained
May 3, 2025
Family is important in One Piece, but it takes many shapes. Some characters value their biological family whereas others hold more care for their adopted family. Monkey D. Luffy is a good example of how characters are shown to care for various members in their family more than others and how that's perfectly fine. Roronoa Zoro isn't the kind of person who talks about his family at all. In fact, most of the information about his relatives is revealed in an SBS from One Piece Vol. 105.
Zoro doesn't talk about his past much, period. As such, fans didn't even know he was an orphan for sure until the SBS. While Zoro clearly cares about several people in his life, he keeps most of his focus reserved for his crew and the people in front of him. It's entirely possible he doesn't actually know who he's related to. Zoro's family ties connect him to both Wano and the East Blue. However, even when meeting people with the Shimotsuki name, Zoro doesn't bring up the fact that he is also a member of the Shimotsuki family.

Zoro Doesn't Talk About His Family or Past
Roronoa Zoro grew up on a relatively peaceful island in Shimotsuki Village. He learned to use a sword in the Isshin Dojo. When he felt he could no longer learn in the dojo, he set out to see to fight strong opponents. Zoro became a notorious bounty hunter only because he needed to feed himself.
