Martin Brundle didn't hesitate when naming his worst-ever F1 grid walk as 'scary' incident recalled
May 4, 2025

The popular former F1 driver and journalist gave his thoughts on a "scary" incident which happened at a Grand Prix.

Martin Brundle has already opened up about why his ‘worst-ever’ grid walk was “a bit scary” during an honest interview with SPORTbible.
Brundle, 65, has been involved with the sport of F1 for over four decades and raced for teams such as Williams, Brabham, Benetton, McLaren and Jordan during his career before then moving into the media, having worked for the BBC and Sky Sports.
And given the wealth and notoriety associated with F1, he is often spotted chasing celebrities around grids across the race calendar.
Sometimes, grabbing a big name can go smoothly and lead to a decent chat, while other incidents can often result in Brundle being snubbed by a celebrity who is not willing to engage in conversation.
But what was the 'worst-ever' grid walk he was part of?
Well, speaking to SPORTbible he revealed all and even went as far as describing one incident as “a little bit scary”.
"I was in Qatar trying to speak to David Beckham and there were two guys man-marking me," Brundle said.
"Wherever I went, they were just looking at me! They did not want me to talk to David Beckham on that grid; the World Cup was coming up, wasn't it?
"That was a little bit scary because they were literally on the grid to stop me. So, I went round the back of [Lewis] Hamilton's car, and they went round the front and kind of just looked at me. That was a little bit odd.
