Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the 2027 presidential race, declaring his candidacy during a symbolic address at Dorof Market in Kanduyi, Bungoma County. The youthful legislator said the event marked the beginning of a new kind of leadership focused on unity, transformation, and regional empowerment.

In a statement posted on his Instagram account, Salasya described the Bungoma rally as more than just a political gathering, calling it a wake- up call for the Luhya community to rally behind a common vision.

" My presidential bid today in Bungoma in Kanduyi kwa Doruf Market is a wake- up voice that a new leader who is going to put all Luhya together has been born, and he is going to lead this country come 2027 as a president. ONE MAN guitar, " he wrote.

Salasya, who has built a reputation as an outspoken and energetic legislator, said his candidacy is not just about seeking high office but about reshaping the political narrative in Western Kenya. He emphasized the need for the Luhya community, which numbers over 10 million people, to harness its demographic and economic power for national influence.

His declaration follows recent criticism he directed at regional leaders, accusing them of neglecting development priorities in favor of personal interests. Salasya has repeatedly argued that Western Kenya' s lack of progress is a result of disunity and ineffective political representation.
