“You Cannot Summon MacG To Parliament, Stop The Clowning” EFF Youth Leader Lonzi
May 4, 2025
EFF Youth Command Leader, Lonzi, has launched a scathing attack on Deputy Minister Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, accusing her of "clowning" and overstepping her constitutional bounds after she attempted to summon controversial podcaster MacGyver “MacG” Mukwevho to Parliament. This comes after MacG’s remarks about media personality Minnie Dlamini, which stirred significant public backlash.
In a statement released on social media, Lonzi lambasted Letsike for her actions, accusing the Deputy Minister of misunderstanding the principles of South Africa’s separation of powers. "You cannot summon MacG to Parliament. This is not your personal circus," Lonzi remarked, adding that it is the responsibility of the legislature, not the executive, to handle such matters. He further pointed out that ministers, like Letsike, hold no authority to summon individuals to Parliament unless legally mandated through formal processes.
MacG, known for his no-holds-barred approach on his podcast Podcast and Chill, had made remarks about Dlamini that were deemed offensive by some in the public sphere, sparking outrage and calls for accountability. Letsike’s attempt to bring the podcaster before Parliament was widely seen as an attempt to curb free speech, leading to public outcry about the potential misuse of political power to silence voices.
