The Mass, attended by the College of Cardinals, concluded the nine days of mourning traditionally observed for a deceased pope. With reverence and emotion, Cardinal Mamberti reflected on the essence of Peter' s mission— love expressed through unwavering service to the Church and humanity.

Drawing from the Gospel passage recounting the Risen Christ' s appearance by the Sea of Tiberias, Mamberti emphasized that Pope Francis mirrored Peter' s calling. " He was animated by the Lord' s love and remained faithful to his mission until the exhaustion of his strength, " Mamberti declared. This Gospel reading, he noted, is timely as the Church prepares to choose a new Pope with the upcoming Conclave set for 7 May.
