The Mass concluded the traditional nine days of mourning observed after the passing of a pope, drawing the College of Cardinals and faithful mourners together in reverent unity.

During his homily, Cardinal Mamberti reflected on the enduring mission of Saint Peter, describing it as a life of love manifested through unwavering service to the Church and humanity. Citing the Gospel account of the Risen Christ' s appearance by the Sea of Tiberias, Mamberti described Pope Francis as one who " was animated by the Lord' s love and remained faithful to his mission until the exhaustion of his strength. " The Scripture passage, he emphasized, is especially meaningful as the Church prepares for the upcoming Conclave on May 7, where a new successor to Peter will be chosen.
