Siyanda Xulu Set for Romanian Switch as South African Influence Grows in Europe
May 7, 2025
Veteran Bafana Bafana defender Siyanda Xulu could be on the verge of extending his impressive football journey abroad, with strong indications that the 33-year-old is set to join a Romanian top-flight club — a move that would see him compete in the same league as fellow South African international Siyabonga Ngezana.
Xulu, who was recently linked with Libyan giants Al-Ittihad, appeared close to a move to North Africa before the club opted to sign Botswana’s Thatayaone Ditlhokwe instead. With that deal falling through, Xulu has shifted focus to Eastern Europe, where a deal with a SuperLiga club is reportedly nearing completion.
New Chapter Abroad for a Seasoned Pro
Should the move materialize, it would mark another chapter in Xulu’s well-traveled career. The experienced centre-back has previously plied his trade in Russia (Rostov), Israel (Hapoel Tel Aviv), and Azerbaijan (Turan Tovuz), and has consistently proven his adaptability on and off the pitch.
Xulu’s most recent stint with SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership was short-lived, with limited game time prompting the defender to seek more regular football — and a new challenge — abroad.
