IPL 2025: Did Hardik Pandya's THIS miss cost MI a loss against GT?
May 7, 2025
MUMBAI: Gujarat Titans snatched a heart-stopping three-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in a rain-affected IPL 2025 clash at Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday night, clinching victory off the final ball.
Chasing a revised target of 147 in 19 overs under the DLS method, Gujarat found themselves in deep trouble at 132/6 after two rain interruptions. With 15 needed from the final over, Rahul Tewatia and Gerald Coetzee faced the pressure. Mumbai skipper Hardik Pandya handed the ball to Deepak Chahar — but things quickly unraveled.
Tewatia struck a boundary and rotated strike before Coetzee launched a six. A no-ball from Chahar added to the chaos. Coetzee fell on the fifth delivery, leaving Gujarat needing one run off the last ball. Arshad Khan, the new man, nudged it to mid-off and sprinted. Hardik collected cleanly but went for a direct hit instead of relaying the throw to Suryakumar Yadav at the stumps. He missed — and Gujarat stole the win.
The decision not to pass to Suryakumar and Chahar's failure to back up drew sharp criticism from fans and analysts.
Earlier, Gujarat were cruising at 113/2 before the rain hit. Shubman Gill anchored with a composed 43, but Mumbai's bowlers — especially Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult — triggered a collapse post-resumption.
Despite the drama, Gujarat held their nerve to top the points table, inching closer to the playoffs. Mumbai, meanwhile, slipped to fourth in the standings after the gut-wrenching defeat.
