The Willamette Meteorite, a 15.5-ton iron-nickel mass, is the largest meteorite found in the United States, discovered in Oregon in 1902. Known as Tomanowos to the Clackamas Chinook, it was revered as sacred. Transported by glacial floods ~13,000 years ago from Canada or Montana, it’s now displayed at the American Museum of Natural History, acquired in 1906.
