Bix (Adria Arjona) and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) were in a relationship throughout the run of season 2. Spanning the last few years, we know that there is a deep love between the two and that even when Bix was at her lowest, she was still on the side of the rebellion. So when Cassian comes to her in episode 9, ready to run away, she does what she thinks is right.
Cassian was on Ghorman when the massacre happened. He saw how the Empire used their own force to twist the story and he saw the death and destruction they caused. There are two ways people can react to situations like that when they are on the side of the Rebels: They can be inspired to fight or they can want out.
In that moment, Cassian wanted to be free of the pain of the Empire and if that meant leaving the Rebellion behind, he was okay with it. But Bix saw that this was bigger than them and their love and that someone like Cassian wasn’t just an active part of the Rebellion but a vital one. And so her sacrifice is one that ultimately allowed the Rebellion to win.
There are layers to the Rebellion. There are people like Bix who want to fight and have been through so much are still part of it. And then there are people like Cassian, who have always had to fight and do not realize how important they really are. Luckily, Bix could see that.
