EastEnders fans outraged as soap reveals The Queen Vic's new makeover after 40 years
May 8, 2025
EastEnders viewers were left divided over the reopening of The Queen Vic after it was restored to its former glory following an explosive disaster earlier this year
EastEnders fans are not happy with The Queen Vic's new look as the pub finally opens its doors again.
The iconic pub has been a mainstay on the soap since 1985. Known for the families that have run it over the years, and the drama that unfolds within its walls, the Queen Vic is truly the heart of the famous square.
It's said that the fictional pub was built in the 1860s and originally had two bars - the public bar and the saloon. According to former landlady Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), the first owners were Mr and Mrs Bagstock.
Over the soap's 40-year-run on TV, viewers have seen many faces behind the iconic bar, from soap legends like Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor) to newcomers like Elaine Knight (Harriet Thorpe).
However, in February, the beloved Queen Vic pub was destroyed in a shocking explosion during the soap's 40th anniversary week, reports Plymouth Live.
Fans watched in shock as the pub caught fire and trapped terrified residents inside - including Martin Fowler (James Bye), who tragically later died.
The explosion was caused by killer Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman), who was making a getaway in his car. However, Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) pushed Ian (Adam Woodyatt) into the road after noticing Reiss speeding down.
