Gen Taban Amin Brokers Uganda-DRC Peace Deal to Strengthen Border Relations
May 8, 2025
Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have signed a peace agreement aimed at enhancing security and cooperation along their shared border, thanks to the mediation efforts of ISO’s Deputy Director for Special Operations, Gen Taban Amin.
The deal was signed in Mahagi Territory, Ituri Province, on May 5, following years of cross-border tensions marked by illegal trade, armed robberies, and insecurity.
Gen Amin described the agreement as a turning point for both nations, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and regional unity rooted in Pan-African ideals.
Present at the signing were key officials, including Col Disanoa Laula from the DRC and Uganda’s MP for the Elderly, Catherine Akumu Mavejjina, who both applauded the accord as a symbol of brotherhood and cooperation.
Robert Abak, Resident District Commissioner of Nebbi, welcomed the deal as a boost for peaceful trade and development along the border.
The agreement marks a fresh effort to secure the region and improve livelihoods for communities on both sides.
