I finally started using Duplicati and I should have sooner
May 8, 2025
After years of relying on a haphazard mix of external drives and half-hearted cloud uploads, I finally took the plunge and started exploring Duplicati. Honestly, the only regret I have is not doing it sooner. What I discovered was a powerful yet surprisingly user-friendly tool that has not only simplified my backup process but also given me peace of mind for storing essential data.
Whether it’s security, convenience, cross-platform compatibility, or automation, Duplicati ticks all the right boxes for me. Here’s why it has quickly become a crucial part of my digital life.

Cross-platform solution

A seamless web UI

One of the things that really impressed me about Duplicati right from the start was how truly cross-platform it is. Since I juggle between a Windows desktop, a MacBook Pro, and a Linux laptop, having a backup solution that works seamlessly on them is a huge win. The installation is straightforward, and the web-based interface looks and feels the same no matter which OS I'm using.
Unlike the official backup methods on Windows and Mac, Duplicati ensures that my data isn't locked into a specific operating system's ecosystem.

Flexibility of storing data

Pick a storage solution of your choice

The sheer flexibility of where Duplicati lets me store my backups was another major selling point for me. It doesn’t lock me into a single cloud provider (OneDrive or iCloud) or force me to buy specific hardware. For my most critical files, I've opted to back them up to a reliable cloud service I already use (Google Drive).
