Fan Footage Shows What Happened to Man Who Threw Beer at John Cena During SmackDown
May 10, 2025
WWE Universal Champion John Cena has gotten used to batting away the boos during his heel run. But beer bottles are another story.
Live from Dayton, Ohio, Cena was closing the go-home episode of WWE SmackDown ahead of the weekend's Premium Live Event, WWE Backlash. Since winning the WWE title at WrestleMania 41 last month, Cena has opened his promos with an introduction from SmackDown ring announcer Mark Shunock. Last night was no different.
In the clip shared by WrestleOps on X, formerly Twitter, Shunock began to introduce Cena as usual before the beer bottle sailed into the ring. The bottle bounced once before making contact with Cena's knee. This prompted the WWE Champion to stop Shunock's introduction and inspect the bottle. Cena expressed his disappointment to the camera, before throwing the bottle out of the ring.
A professional wrestling veteran with over 25 years of experience, Cena is more than used to rolling with the punches. Having disposed of the beer bottle, the record-breaking 17-time world champion incorporated the incident into his promo.
"The reason you're reduced to throwing empty bottles of beer is because every single one of you knows exactly how important Backlash is. You'll do everything you can, just like Randy Orton. Which is why Randy Orton is not here tonight."
