World snooker final ref breaks two-year social media silence after Mark Williams vs Zhao Xintong
May 10, 2025

Desislava Bozhilova became the first woman to referee a World Snooker Championship final earlier this month, and has now taken to social media to break her silence

Snooker referee Desislava Bozhilova returned to social media following her role in the final of the World Snooker Championship. The 32-year-old from Bulgaria, who had the "best seat in the house" witnessed Zhao Xintong's remarkable 18-12 victory over Mark Williams on Monday.
The win was a historic first, with Zhao becoming the first amateur and the first Asian player to lift the world title. Bozhilova was visibly moved by the event and shared her thoughts on X, expressing gratitude for the accolades she received: "Thank you so much for the kind words regarding refereeing the World Final. I loved every second of it.
"It was a pleasure to be involved in a game like that. Congratulations to Zhao Xintong on an amazing win, and also to Mark Williams for making it to his fifth World Final."
The post broke her silence on the platform since her birthday celebration posts from Vietnam in October 2023. Hailing from Silven, Bozhilova has risen through the ranks since commencing her officiating career at the 2012 Bulgarian Open.
She took charge of her first Triple Crown event at the UK Championship in 2016 and debuted in the World Snooker Championship in 2019. The referee took charge of her first Triple Crown final at the Masters in 2022, followed by another at the UK Championship later the same year, reports the Express.
