May 11, 2025
The banking giant has announced major changes affecting customers
Santander is axing a service which has been used by customers for years from tomorrow, Monday, May 12.
The big change may take some adjusting to for customers who find the service helpful.
The banking giant, which has 14 million UK customers, is changing the way it contacts customers about their accounts.
They will no longer send out text alerts about balances and transactions.
It's part of a plan by the bank to push more customers towards using its app.
The text alerts have been seen by many as a useful and convenient feature over the years, saving them the hassle of having to log in to an app and check statements and payments.
But Santander customers will now have to log in to their online banking app or visit a branch to check account details.
At present, the weekly text messages update customers about their account activity and anything else they need to be aware of.
Alerts will still be sent out for urgent information.
This includes changes to that might result in customers being charged, such as if you get close to your overdraft limit or enter into an unarranged overdraft.
The bank said: "If you've registered for some alerts on a personal current account or savings account, from May 12, 2025 we'll stop sending them.
