A Leicester teacher is among the lost loved ones commemorated in this week’s Leicester Mercury death notices. Shirley Smith, aged 90, is one of 11 people fondly remembered by family and friends.

This week’s tributes honour those who have recently passed away, as well as those lost in previous weeks and months. Among them is 83-year-old Denis Orton, who was described as a "much loved husband". Tributes have also been paid to Jean Mawby who died aged 77.

Eric, formerly of Barrow upon Soar passed away peacefully on 17/04/2025 at home in Birstall with his family around him. Passed away on Sunday 27th April 2025, aged 85 years.
