Charamba sets new 200m national record
May 16, 2025
US-based track and field star Makanakaishe Charamba has set a new 200m national record for Zimbabwe.
He ran 19.92s (0.5) at the SEC Championships at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Kentucky, Friday.
That takes one second off the 19.93s run by Tapiwanashe Makarawu last year.
Charamba also broke his own Auburn school record in the process. He had already shattered the then 24-year college record in 2024.
“Going into the race, I was thinking just run,” Charamba said. “My philosophy is that I don’t think about anything when I get in the blocks because I just execute. At the end of the day, this race is just muscle memory. I’ve already done everything in practice, and now it’s time to go out there and put it all on the track.”
