Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez were both on target for the hosts but it wasn’t enough for victory as Villarreal managed to grab all three points.

Yet the result did not matter as Barca had already sealed top spot and lifted the trophy in front of their own fans after the final whistle.

Captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen was given the trophy and lifted in with his team-mates to cap what’s been a brilliant season for Hansi Flick’s side.

Fermin spoke after the game and admitted he wasn’t too worried about the result as Barcelona were already Kings of Spain.

“I think Villarreal played a good game. Congratulations, but we’re champions,” he told the media.

“I’m happy with the goal, even though it didn’t help. We wanted to get another win. The important thing is that we won the league, and that’s it.”

Barcelona are due to wrap up their La Liga campaign next weekend against Athletic Club.
