10 Best Early-Game Weapons in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered, Ranked
May 20, 2025
The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion features a rich open world full of interesting characters, strange monsters, and powerful artifacts. Like other games in the franchise, much of the fun is in simply wandering to see what can be discovered. Some players, however, like to acquire some necessary skills and items as early as possible to aid their journey. This entails prioritizing trips to specific places to grab weapons that work great for the early game. While Oblivion is certainly full of awesome weapons, some should be claimed sooner rather than later.
Oblivion, like Skyrim, features a scaling system where most enemies and items will rise in level to match the player. As one grows more powerful, so too do the monsters they encounter and the weapons and armor they find. This means that picking up a weapon while at a lower level will permanently lock that weapon into lower stats. As such, choosing the best early game weapons is about balancing the need for good gear while not nerfing equipment that could truly be phenomenal if picked up at later levels.

10 Shadowhunt is Great For Ranged Players

The Bow is a Bit Tricky to Get, But is Definitely Worth It

Shadowhunt is a solid option for ranged fighters who want to take on the Dark Brotherhood questline early. Obtained as a reward for completing "The Lonely Wanderer" quest, this bow does good damage and features enchantments that damage health and magicka, turns undead, and applies weakness to poison. On top of this, while the enchantments on the bow scale with level, the standard damage remains the same, meaning players aren't missing out on too much for grabbing this weapon early.
