Stephen A. Smith Was Not Happy About Knicks’ Game 1 Loss
May 23, 2025
The New York Knicks just suffered their worst loss of the season.
They were up by double digits against the Indiana Pacers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals and failed to close the deal.
That’s why ESPN pundit and well-known Knicks fan Stephen A. Smith was in no mood the morning after.
Talking on “First Take,” Smith ripped the Knicks for blowing a 17-point lead midway through the fourth quarter and losing in overtime.
“It was a collective collapse of epic proportions. It was horrible. My man (OG Anunoby) and the rest of the crew. This is bad. This is very bad!” Smith said.
Smith said there was no excuse for such an epic meltdown, and it’s hard to disagree with him.
Prior to that game, NBA teams trailing by at least nine points in the final minute of the fourth quarter or overtime were 0-1,414.
The Pacers did something unprecedented, and while they deserve all the credit in the world for not giving up, the Knicks were in total control of this game and let it slip through their fingers.
Granted, anything can still happen, and it’s way too early to sound the alarms, but this set a dangerous precedent for the remainder of the series.
The Pacers never feel like they’re truly out of any game, whereas the Knicks will have this memory haunting them in the back of their minds.
