What Led Police to Arrest the Mother of the Suspected Killer in Olorato Mongale Case
Jun 2, 2025
The manhunt for the person behind the brutal killing of Olorato Mongale has taken a dramatic turn after Deputy Police Minister Polly Boshielo confirmed that the suspect, Philangenkosi Makhanya, got tipped off by his own mother—forcing police to arrest both parents.
Boshielo revealed that the police had long been searching for someone only known as "John" in connection with the case. “It has now come to our knowledge that Philangenkosi is the 'John' that we've been looking for,” she said.
The police were reportedly closing in on Makhanya when his mother allegedly warned him that officers were on their way. That single whisper, meant to help him escape, ended up blowing the whole case wide open. It led authorities straight to her, and now both she and the suspect’s father are behind bars for obstructing justice.
Philangenkosi, now identified as the prime suspect, remains on the run. The arrest of his parents is seen as a major development in the case that has gripped the country.
The search for him continues as police intensify efforts to bring Olorato Mongale’s killer to justice.
