10 Best Agatha Christie Adaptations, Ranked
Jun 15, 2025
Agatha Christie is one of the most popular and prolific authors, often referred to as the Queen of Crime. Her mystery and crime novels deliver some of the best twists in fiction, and also feature iconic detectives such as Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. And thanks to the many novels Agatha Christie wrote, as well as the popularity of her books, there have been multiple adaptations of her work on radio, television and movies. Kenneth Branagh brought Hercule Poirot back to the big screen in recent years with several movie adaptations of Agatha Christie novels, the latest of which was A Haunting in Venice, an adaptation of Christie's Halloween Party. However, while most TV or movie adaptations of Agatha Christie novels are interesting, some are still better than others.
With Agatha Christie, most fans want to see a faithful adaptation of the source material. Some of the adaptations that weren't well-received by the public and Christie fans were either because the adaptation changed too much of the plot, or because the portrayal of Poirot and Miss Marple wasn't loyal to the books. Even Agatha Christie herself often complained about the adaptations of her novels, with only two adaptations receiving Christie's seal of approval before her death. And while Christie's two favorite adaptations are, without a doubt, some of the best, there are other adaptations of Agatha Christie novels for TV and movies that have been able to capture the mystery and atmosphere of the Queen of Crime's works.
