In case you missed it, the fast food chicken sandwich wars are still waging. And, we’re no longer surprised when there’s a skirmish every now and then, like earlier this month when Popeyes added three new menu items that look eerily similar to McDonald’s Snack Wraps, which are expected to return to menus, with much fanfare, next month.

But it seems there’s a new food war that may be happening, one that’s snuck up on us. We’re going to call this one the potential pizza crust wars. We're barely halfway through the year, and yet, we've seen so many different pizzas roll out: Domino’s introduced its first-ever stuffed crust pizza, Little Caesars dropped a limited-time pretzel crust pizza, Pizza Hut brought back its Cheesy Bites pizza, and Papa Johns baked Cheddar cheese right into its crust.

And that's not all. Hot on the heels of its Cheddar crusts, Papa Johns is launching a first-of-its-kind pizza that features a bakery item as the crust—and we're shocked no one else has done this before.

Everyone knows croissants are delicious, whether they’re plain, filled with chocolate in a pain au chocolat, used as sandwich bread, or torn into pieces for a bread pudding. It’s not too far of a stretch to reimagine them as a pizza crust, and Papa Johns is making that a reality.
