PGA Tour star's caddie 'feared the worst' in 7 a.m. text after Travelers Championship
Jun 21, 2025

Keegan Bradley's long-time caddie Scott Vail was worried he was being let go following the 2024 Travelers Championship, but the American had much more positive news

Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley gave his long-time caddie Scott Vail a scare with a text following last year’s Travelers Championship.
Vail feared he was being fired when receiving a morning text from his boss following the end of the Travelers Championship, which was won by Scottie Scheffler. He defeated Tom Kim in a playoff to seal another win during his dominant season.
But Bradley, who finished up at River Highlands at eight-under and is in a competitive field featuring Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, sent a message to caddie — and Vail thought his gig was over. It turned out to be good news, thankfully for Vail.
The message was actually Bradley informing his right-hand man that he was the new captain of the United States Ryder Cup team. Vail eventually found out the news after Bradley gave him a call.
It was the message before the call that scared Vail though. Bradley simply wrote ‘call me,’ and Vail assumed their partnership was over.
“The Monday morning [after the Travelers Championship], I got up at 7 a.m. and I had a text already from him saying, ‘You know we text back and forth a lot, but we’ve been on the road for like four weeks’,” Vail told Golf's Sub Par Podcast. “It was weird to have it, you know, straight away the next morning.
