Jun 24, 2025
ELIGIBLE Americans have the chance to pocket a huge $5,000 payment as part of a whopping $2.3million data breach settlement - and they only need one receipt.
Food distribution giant Sysco has agreed to pay out the massive multimillion-dollar settlement to resolve claims over a major data breach.
The company was accused of failing to protect customer information during a 2023 cyberattack that exposed sensitive personal data.
Sysco, which supplies food, equipment and other essentials to restaurants, hospitals, schools and hotels, was hit by the breach two years ago.
The payout comes after a class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of affected customers across the US.
The deal benefits people in the United States who received a notice from Sysco about the data breach around May 2023.
According to the lawsuit, the breach could have been prevented if the company had taken reasonable cybersecurity precautions.
They say that the failure to act led to personal information falling into the wrong hands.
Victims claim they have had to spend time and money protecting themselves against identity theft and fraud since the incident.

They are also facing the long-term risk of future fraud due to their data being exposed.
As part of the settlement, affected customers can claim up to $5,000 for out-of-pocket losses linked to the breach.
