In a story that has shocked and uplifted the nation, 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi has been found alive more than 20 days after his mysterious abduction in Bloemfontein.

Baukudi disappeared under suspicious circumstances earlier this month, triggering a frantic search that involved police, community members, and national media coverage. His family feared the worst—until yesterday, when he was discovered alive in an abandoned farmhouse outside Botshabelo, about 45km from where he was last seen.

According to Free State police, Kamogelo appeared disoriented and dehydrated but was able to speak and identify himself. Emergency services rushed him to a local hospital where he is receiving treatment and undergoing further evaluation.

Details surrounding his disappearance remain unclear, but initial reports suggest he may have been held against his will. Police are investigating a potential link to a human trafficking syndicate operating in the province. A suspect is believed to be in custody, with more arrests expected.

His mother, Lerato Baukudi, broke down in tears as she described seeing her son again. “I prayed every day that he would come home. God has answered,” she said.

The community of Bloemfontein erupted in celebration after hearing the news. A candlelight vigil that had been planned in his honour has now turned into a thanksgiving service scheduled for the weekend.
