Emma Raducanu forced to change Wimbledon dress after breaking rule
Jul 1, 2025

Emma Raducanu returns to Wimbledon on Monday as she faces Mimi Xu in the opening round of the women's singles, having previously been accused of breaking a 150-year-old rule at the All England Club

Emma Raducanu is set to commence her 2025 Wimbledon journey on Monday afternoon, squaring off against Welsh teen sensation Mimi Xu in the first round of the women's singles.
The 22 year old enters the Championships as Britain's top-ranked player and, despite not having high expectations for herself at SW19 this year, she hopes to progress past the fourth round for the first time. Her quest begins on Court One on Monday, where she'll face 17 year old rising star Xu from Swansea.
Raducanu's return to SW19 follows a controversy earlier this year when she was accused of violating a 150 year old rule at the All England Club.
In March, club members labelled her "arrogant" for allegedly disregarding the long-established dress code at SW19.
The regulations stipulate that players must don all-white attire during matches and practice sessions, a rule that also applies to the main Grand Slam event in the summer, reports Wales Online.
However, the 2021 US Open champion was reportedly seen on the club's courts wearing "whatever she want[ed]," allegedly turning up in a pink outfit for a practice session.
