Who is Kang Cheol and the family at the end of Squid Game Season 3? The details you may have missed
Jul 7, 2025
The third season of has officially come to an end, and we're still processing.
As the bloodthirsty drama has wrapped up, we finally got a resolution to the show's twisty premise which sees a host of contestants desperately fighting to the death in pursuit of a major payout - this time, after a failed mutiny, previous winner Seong Gi-hun seeks to end the games once and for all.
But while the show wrapped up a number of plot lines, some viewers had a number of questions from the finale. Not only did the Cate Blanchett cameo raise some eyebrows (it's to tee up the show's potential American iteration, guys) but fans on TikTok have shared their confusion at the appearance of Kang Cheol and his family at the end of the show.
So, we're here to break it down for ya.
Basically, Kang Cheol is a character from season one: he is the younger brother of Kang Sae-byeok, Player 067. As you might remember, Sae-byeok was a North Korean defector - her father was killed during the process, and her mother was caught. She was competing in the games in order to pay a broker to bring her mother to South Korea and save her brother from life in a shelter. So, when she dies, her last wish is for her brother to be taken care of.
Also in the first season, Cho Sang Woo is the disgraced investor banker who enters the game in order to pay off his debts. He takes his own life at the end of the game and his dying wish is for Gi-hun to take care of his mother.
