UEFA set to act as Nottingham Forest's Europa League hopes in balance after huge U-turn

Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive as Lyon's successful relegation appeal leaves Crystal Palace facing Europa League heartbreak and Reds with possible promotion chance
Nottingham Forest could yet be promoted to play in the Europa League next season after a key decision was made in France.
The Reds’ superb 2024/25 Premier League campaign saw them qualify to play in the Europa Conference League next season, but a multi-club ownership controversy involving FA Cup winners Crystal Palace meant they were handed a chance to being elevated to take part in UEFA’s second-ranked competition instead.
The situation was further complicated by financial problems at Ligue 1 club Lyon, who also qualified to play in the Europa League but have a common shareholder with Palace in US businessman John Textor.
Lyon were then relegated to Ligue 2 by French football's financial watchdog, meaning they were no longer able to play in the Europa League, offering hope to both Palace, on the assumption their multi-club ownership issue was no longer a problem, and Forest, if it was.
However, it is being claimed that Lyon have won their appeal against relegation, therefore meaning they are back in Ligue 1 and the Europa League reckoning.
Just what that means for Forest remains unclear amid claims UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body will decide on Palace’s fate later this week, but should Palace be barred than Forest could yet end up playing Europa League Football next season.
