Jason starred as Mike Carr during season 5 and season 6, and he told Entertainment Tonightof working with Rachel, "She's just the best, and I just feel very lucky to have gotten to be kind of like a fly on the wall. Florida-born Jason grew up in Texas, but went to college at SUNY Purchase, where he cofounded the theater company Strangemen & Co with his friends.

The pair first crossed paths while working on I’m Obsessed With You: But You’ve Got To Leave Me Alone. Town & Country wrote in 2022 that all the actors lived in a dorm together and that Rachel "was so committed to her role that she wouldn’t date him until after filming." Meanwhile, she noted "It was a hard no for me. Stay away, stay away. Okay, fine."
