Veteran Actor Tom Njemanze is dead

The Nigerian movie industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor Tom Njemanze, who reportedly passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, after a long battle with prostate cancer.
His death was confirmed by filmmaker and colleague Stanley Ajemba Chibueze, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, who had previously raised the alarm over the actor’s deteriorating health and called for urgent financial support for his treatment.
In an emotional announcement shared via Instagram on Saturday, July 19, the producer revealed that the beloved actor had succumbed to his illness despite efforts to save him.
“We just received news from Tom Njemanze’s family that he has succumbed to his ailment and passed on yesterday. May his soul rest in peace,” Stanley wrote.

Before his passing, photos of Njemanze lying weak in a hospital bed surfaced on social media, showing the actor with an oxygen mask and intravenous drips, sparking concern among fans and calls for assistance. According to reports, the veteran thespian was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
Tom Njemanze, known for his calm delivery, rich voice, and classic roles, was a familiar face in the golden era of Nollywood. He appeared in several blockbuster home videos during the 1990s and early 2000s, often starring in both English and Igbo-language films. Despite taking a quieter role in recent years, Njemanze remained widely respected for his contributions to the growth of the Nigerian film industry.
