Former Speaker Job Ndugai dies at 62

Dar es Salaam. Former Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania, Job Ndugai, has died at the age of 62. He passed away today, Wednesday, August 6, 2025, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Dodoma.
His death marks the end of a long and eventful political career that saw him rise through the ranks of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) to become one of the most prominent figures in the country’s legislative leadership.
The announcement was made by current Speaker of Parliament, Dr Tulia Ackson, who expressed deep sorrow over the passing of her predecessor.
“With great sorrow, I would like to announce the passing of our leader, veteran politician, and former Speaker of Parliament, Job Ndugai, who died today in Dodoma,” said Dr Tulia in a public statement.
“I extend my condolences to the bereaved family, relatives, friends, and the people of Kongwa constituency. May Almighty God grant you strength and patience during this difficult time.”
Dr Tulia noted that the Office of the National Assembly, in collaboration with the deceased’s family and a funeral committee, is currently making burial arrangements. Further details are expected to be announced in due course.
Born on January 21, 1963, Job Ndugai served as Member of Parliament for Kongwa and held various senior positions in Parliament, including Deputy Speaker from 2010 to 2015. He was elected Speaker in 2015, a position he held until his resignation in January 2022.
