End of 128GB? iPhone 17 Pro Reportedly Moving to 256GB Base Model
Aug 8, 2025
It looks likely that Apple will be increasing its prices for the iPhone 17 series with one analyst claiming we may see every model jump up in price by $50. That would take the iPhone 17 to a base price of $849, and the most expensive iPhone 17 Pro Max to a starting price of $1,249, or a top-end price of $1,649.
That price may be even more difficult for shoppers looking at the iPhone 17 Pro. A new leak has suggested Apple may be set to also increase the base storage size for the phone to match the iPhone 17 Pro Max by only offering 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB.
The leaker known as Instant Digital on Chinese social networking site Weibo has claimed the brand is dropping its 128GB option. The leaker didn’t suggest any changes for the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air, suggesting they believe those phones will continue to offer 128GB variants.
A machine translated version of Instant Digital's post says, "In 2025, Pro will finally start at 256GB. This is really not easy for Apple."
This leaker has a mixed track record, including some false iPhone 16 rumors around the screen brightness. However, the source has also been accurate in some recent iPhone predictions. As with all leaks, take this information with a pinch of salt until Apple officially announces changes.
It makes sense for Apple to move away from 128GB for its flagship considering it's now a limited storage size for a top-end phone. Apple hasn't offered 128GB on the Pro Max variant since the iPhone 14 series. However, the pricing is where this is likely to get complicated.
