I Tried the Mt. McDonaldland Shake to Figure Out the Mystery Flavor
Aug 13, 2025
McDonald's colorful new milkshake flavor is nostalgia in a cup for millennials.
The fast-food giant has been playing coy with us.
When McDonald’s announced earlier this month that it was launching a new limited-edition milkshake flavor called the Mt. McDonaldland Shake, the company declined to disclose what exactly the drink would taste like.
Of course, we love a mystery, so we got our hands on the new McDonald’s milkshake as soon as we could.
What does the Mt. McDonaldland milkshake taste like?
The “secret concoction” that the company said makes up the Mt. McDonaldland Shake is said to be inspired by the fictional mountain’s “vibrant blue ‘lava’ and pink clouds.” In terms of an actual flavor profile, I’ve got to say this milkshake lives up to the surprisingly expansive lore.
The milkshake has a fruity, berry-forward taste that immediately recalls the nostalgic, slightly unnatural blue raspberry flavor that was so ubiquitous in popular candy of the ’90s and early aughts. There are hints of both blueberry and raspberry present, but mainly it’s a sweet (but somehow not too sweet) sip of childhood for a millennial like me.
As for the pink whipped topping, it mostly tastes like your standard-issue McDonald’s vanilla flavor—though I could be imagining a slight undercurrent of bubble gum present as well.
