"No matter what the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities say or do, they cannot change the historical and legal fact that Taiwan is China's territory, nor can they shake the international community's fundamental commitment to the one-China principle. Moreover, they cannot obstruct the historical trend of China's eventual reunification," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
Guo's remarks were made in response to media inquiry over the recent proactive remarks by an official of Taiwan authorities, who claimed that both Taiwan region and Europe are facing "the same threat from authoritarianism" during his stop in Poland.
Recently, the Lai Ching-te authorities have frequently traveled abroad under various pretexts, spreading lies and fallacies about "Taiwan independence," hyping up the so-called "mainland threat," rehashing the "democracy versus authoritarianism," and colluding with external forces to embolden their nefarious pursuit of "independence," Guo said, "These actions deliberately provoke confrontation and sow discord, revealing their malicious intentions."
There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, said Guo, adding that the one-China principle is the political foundation for diplomatic relations between China and other countries, as well as a fundamental norm of international relations and a broad consensus within the international community.
