Barcelona arrive in Germany as an 'average' side and Borussia Dortmund are favourites to beat them, according to World Cup winner Olaf Thon.
The Bundesliga great feels the Catalan giants have shown no reason to fear them so far this season as they have stuttered without Lionel Messi in their ranks.
Meeting at the Westfalenstadion on Tuesday night in the opening round of Champions League fixtures, Thon feels the time is right for Dortmund to face Barcelona.
Despite the fact Messi is set to feature for the first time this season after recovering from an ongoing calf problem, the 1990 World Cup winner is unmoved in his prediction.
'I'd say they're still clear favourites against Barcelona,' Thon wrote in a column for Kicker.
'The Spaniards won 5-2 against Valencia at the weekend – without Lionel Messi – but I think they are average at the moment. Barcelona are still trying to find their identity.
'Starting their Champions League season at home is a great opportunity to begin with a bang – and to get more momentum going for the title fight with Bayern [Munich] and RB Leipzig.'
