Arizona Cardinals restructure Chandler Jones' contract, free up salary cap space for move
Sept. 19, 2019
The Arizona Cardinals have restructured the contract of outside linebacker Chandler Jones, freeing up $4 million against the salary cap this season and adding flexibility that could allow them to make a significant roster addition.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter, citing league sources, was the first to report the news.
Schefter suggested the move would make sense if the Cardinals were trying to make a trade with the Jaguars for cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who would add $3.5 million to Arizona’s salary cap.
The Cardinals have spoken with the Jaguars, according to Shefter, but he writes that the Cardinals don’t believe they’ll land Ramsey.
By freeing up $4 million this season, the Cardinals will that much less cap space next season, although they will have plenty to spend – around $75 million.
