WWE News: Former World Champion Returning On Raw With Changed Gimmick
Oct. 14, 2019
As per the news carried by ringsidenews.com, Randy Orton might not portray the heel persona upon arriving on the Raw roster. It’s a fact that he is much comfortable playing the character of a villain but it may be time for a change as considered by the Raw executive director, Paul Heyman.
“So Randy Orton may be going babyface, or at least this was a test,” Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio.
The idea that Randy Orton could be turning babyface came after a segment took place following this week’s episode of SmackDown. A dark main event took place for the fans in attendance whereas Kevin Owens competed against Randy Orton. It was not really a match considering that 205 Live superstars interfered in the match causing a disqualification. Thereafter, Owens and Orton worked together to take them out. Perhaps this was the moment when the WWE creative team performed an experiment on the 13-time world champion.
Here are the details at what happened on SmackDown dark segment, (courtesy wrestlingINC.com)
“The dark main event segment after WWE 205 Live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas saw Randy Orton and Kevin Owens team up to take out several cruiserweights. Owens vs. Orton was set to begin until Tony Nese and Drew Gulak interrupted them and had words, then a brawl. Ariya Daivari tried to attack Orton from behind but Orton hit him with the RKO. Mike Kanellis then took the mic but was quickly hit with an RKO and a Stunner to end the show.”
The RKO move of Randy Orton is one of the most popular moves that automatically earns huge cheers from the crowd every time he pulls that off. So that puts him in a babyface position by all means. Still, he turned heel last year to bring variation to his character and go into the sadistic Viper mode. But if this report is true then WWE may use him in a different way from now onwards where he won’t be a villain, anymore.
