Precious is a 1 year 7 months little girl in Sapele, Delta State who is suffering from hydrocephalus. Her Jehovah witness parents have refused to let her get treated because of their religion which restricts the members from having blood transfusions.
Hydrocephalus is the buildup of fluid in the cavities (ventricles) deep within the human brain. The excess fluid in the brain increases the size of the ventricles and puts pressure on the human brain.
Cerebrospinal fluid normally flows through the ventricles and bathes the brain and spinal column however the pressure of too much cerebrospinal fluid associated with hydrocephalus can cause damage to the brain tissues and bring about impairments in brain function.
Hydrocephalus happens at any age, but its occurance is more frequent among infants and adults 60 and over that. Surgical treatment for hydrocephalus can restore and maintain normal cerebrospinal fluid levels in the brain.
Some of the symptoms in infants include
Changes in the head
An unusually large head
A rapid increase in the size of the head
Eyes fixed downward (sunsetting of the eyes)
Deficits in muscle tone and strength
Unresponsiveness to touch
Stunted or poor growth
She's suffering from Hydrocephalus and the parents have strongly refused all pleas to carry out surgery on the baby citing religious belief.
This is an example of mental slavery on the parent's side.
Is religion really worth their baby's life?
