1. How COVID-19 is affecting the globe
Confirmed coronavirus cases have reached 5.5 million worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University . More than 345,000 people have died from the virus, while over 2 million have recovered. Russia reports record one-day rise in coronavirus deaths . The Trump Administration brought forward a travel ban on Brazil, as the country surpassed the US daily death toll . The pandemic will have a “disastrous” impact on children’s rights worldwide, says rights group.
2. WHO warns of 'second peak'
Countries where coronavirus infections are declining could still face an “immediate second peak” if they let up too soon on measures to halt the outbreak, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Monday.
Dr Michael J. Ryan, Chief Executive Director of the WHO Health Emergencies Programme said that while many cases are declining in some countries, they are still increasing in Central and South America, South Asia and Africa.
