Shielded by riot police in FULL GEAR, Trump declares himself as "the president of law and order" and vows to crackdown ongoing US protest amid escalating tension.
“My first and highest duty as president is to defend our great country and the American people,” Trump said. “I swore an oath to uphold the laws of our nation and that is exactly what I will do.” He added that justice would be served for George Floyd.
But in striking terms, Trump said he he would deploy “thousands and thousands of heavily armed soldiers, military personnel and law enforcement officers” to dominate the streets.
Protests over the death of George Floyd are entering their seventh day.
As Mr Trump spoke at the White House, hundreds of protesters were beginning to gather outside the White House gates and Police began firing tear gas to disperse the crowd.
The president then crossed the park and posed next to a damaged church, provoking widespread criticism from those who accused him of aggressively targeting the peaceful demonstrators in aid of a photo opportunity.
Meanwhile, dozens of major cities have seen unrest and chaos as shops and public facilities are set on fire.imposed overnight curfews.
