Rider seriously injured after being kicked by a horse

July. 03, 2020

Emergency personnel responded to an incident where a 40-year-old woman was kicked in the face by the horse she has been riding at an equestrian centre in Midrand on 2 July.
ER24 spokesperson Ross Campbell said paramedics were on the scene at 4.55pm and found the rider on the ground surrounded by her family. “Advanced life support interventions were used to stabilise the critically injured patient before she was flown by another services’ medical helicopter to a private hospital for further care,” he said.
“It is believed that she had been thrown from the horse before being kicked,” added Campbell.
Netcare 911 confirmed in a statement that they also responded to the incident. Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said, “Due to the seriousness of her injury, the Netcare 1 air ambulance was activated to airlift her to hospital for further treatment.”
