ALL O-FER? Fernandinho stalls on new Man City contract with just nine months left on deal
Aug. 22, 2019
FERNANDINHO is ready to wait before discussing a new deal at Manchester City.
The Brazil midfielder, 34, has nine months left on his contract at the Etihad and the club like their stars’ future sorted as early as possible.
But the three-time Premier League winner has such a strong relationship with City that there is no hurry.
Both parties are comfortable that the opportunity to talk will come about during the campaign as Pep Guardiola looks to mastermind a hat-trick of titles.
The City boss plans to use Fernandinho as a back-up centre-back as well as his usual position in defensive midfield.
But his season has been delayed after getting extra time off following the Copa America with his country.
He is likely to open talks deeper into the season when the ex-Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder will make a decision on his future.
Meanwhile, Guardiola has scrapped plans for an early-season trip to Spain this week — to keep his players fresh for their tilt at a Premier League hat-trick.
