Air New Zealand extending Airpoints status for another year
Sep 28, 2020
Frequent flyers on Air New Zealand have been given a further 12-month extension to their status.
It will mean that members will hold their existing tier status for an additional year.
The change affects Elite, Gold and Silver members.
Air New Zealand General Manager Loyalty Kate O’Brien says it is a way of saying thanks to customers during a difficult year for the airline and the aviation industry as a whole due to the coronavirus.
“We appreciate travel in 2020 isn’t what any of our frequent flyers were expecting or prepared for and as a result they have had fewer opportunities to maintain their tier status," said O’Brien.
“We had fantastic feedback and messages of support following the extension announced earlier this year and this further 12-month extension will help eligible members protect their current status for longer.”
Last month, Air NZ introduced a range of domestic tourism experiences that can be exchanged for Airpoints.
Ski and snowboard packages at Cardrona, passes to Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools, bungy jumps with AJ Hackett, and golfing at Kauri Cliffs and Cape Kidnappers are among the experiences that can now be paid for with Airpoints Dollars.
Airpoints members earn Airpoints Dollars, which correspond to New Zealand dollars and have a four-year expiry date, by flying with Air New Zealand and other Star Alliance and partner airlines.
