Designer Bags Have Become Investments
Oct 1, 2020
Sometimes splurging pays off and this new study by Rebag proves it.
If you've been thinking about investing in designer bags but aren't sure where to begin or where to get the best value for your hard-earned money, Rebag may have the answers you seek.
The luxury bag resale site just released its "Clair" (Comprehensive Luxury Appraisal Index for Resale) report, which helps buyers see which brands and bags best hold their value in the years to come, which are more trendy, and which brands are on the rise. This is a great resource for anyone who has been thinking about splurging on a bag, especially if you may want to resell the bag after a few seasons of use.
According to the most recent report, Hermès handbags have the highest return on investment, retaining about 80% of their value. ( Kylie Jenner and Stormi will be happy about that!) Iconic brands like Louis Vuitton and Chanel also do well in resale, with 63% value retention. As for brands that are making a fast rise to the top, both Dior and Bottega Veneta scored slots on the report; both brands saw a significant increase from October of last year. Dior's logo-heavy Book Tote and popular Saddle Bag may have an impact on their rising scores, while Bottega saw success with its Pouch clutch.
Smaller accessories like wallets also have a spot on the report and make a case for investing in these slightly less expensive items if possible. "Add-on accessories such as key and cardholders, pochettes, and pouches preserve the closest value to retail often over 85%," the report shares. As for wallets, popular brands include Gucci, Celine (with and without the accent), Dior, and Saint Laurent.
